Legal Writing Listservs

E-MAIL Newsletters and and Internet Discussion Forums about Legal Writing

LRWPROF-L (formerly LWIONLINE)

LWIONLINE has changed names and is now known as the LRWPROF-L listserv. The listserv is a closed discussion list intended to provide a forum in which scholars and teachers of legal writing can discuss topics in their field. Started in 1994 as a list for those attending that year's Legal Writing Institute conference held at Chicago-Kent College of Law, Illinois Institute of Technology, it now has approximately 600 subscribers. Only professional teachers of legal writing are eligible to join the listserv.

Administration and hosting of the list was recently moved to the Indiana University School of Law—Indianapolis. To join the list, send an e-mail to Judy Rosenbaum, chair of the LWI Listserv Committee (j-rosenbaum2@law.northwestern.edu) or to Ken Chestek, list manager (kchestek@iupui.edu). Be sure to identify your school and teaching position in your e-mail.

Once you are subscribed to the list, you will receive a welcome message and instructions on how you can manage your own subscription by visiting the web-based list management tool at www.listserv.iupui.edu.

Archives of all of the messages posted to LWIONLINE can be accessed by following this link: https://listserv.iupui.edu/archives/LRWPROF-L.html. Archives of all messages posted to LRWPROF-L will be gathered and a link to those archives will be posted here in the near future.

Instructions on how to change your listserv settings to receive one daily digest of listserv postings.

LWI-NET

LWI-NET is a one-way E-mail distribution list (similar to a newsletter) set up by the Legal Writing Institute to distribute information to members; it is hosted by the Indiana University School of Law—Indianapolis. LWI-NET is not a discussion forum. All members of LWI will be added to the mailing list automatically when joining the organization. For more information, contact Ken Chestek, the list manager, at kchestek@iupui.edu.

DIRCON

DIRCON is a closed discussion list, limited to directors of legal writing programs who are members of the Association of Legal Writing Directors (ALWD). Subscribers must be eligible to join ALWD; to subscribe to the listserv, contact Professor Lyn Goering at lyn.goering@washburn.edu. To join ALWD or for other information, contact Professor Hether MacFarlane, Secretary, at hmarfarlane@pacific.edu, or Professor Grace Wigal, Treasurer, at gwigal@wvu.edu. Additional information about ALWD and DIRCON is available on the ALWD website, www.alwd.org.

DIRCON also began in 1994, as a discussion list for planning the conference of LRW program directors that led to the formation of ALWD in 1995. Web-based archives are also available, but they are password-restricted to subscribers to the list. Full information on access is sent to subscribers when they join.

Advisors@seattleu.edu

Advisors@seattleu.edu is a listserv for writing advisors who are members of the Legal Writing Institute. To subscribe to the list, send an email to Lori Lamb.
