Assistant Professor of Legal Skills

Quinnipiac University School of Law

Quinnipiac University's School of Law invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Legal Skills to teach in the first-year legal writing and research program starting in August 2020. Legal Skills is a year-long required course for which students earn two graded credit hours per semester. The teaching load is approximately 40 students. The position may also involve occasional opportunities to teach advanced research and writing.

The position is not tenure-track, but can ultimately lead to renewable multi-year contracts. Assistant Professors of Legal Skills receive 9.5-month contracts, which are presumptively renewable after five years and a faculty vote, if teaching performance and the law school’s instructional needs continue at the same level. Promotion to Associate Professor and Professor of Legal Skills is also possible with excellent performance. Assistant Professors of Legal Skills are entitled to vote on all matters other than the hiring, promotion, or tenure of tenure-track faculty.

Responsibilities include teaching Legal Skills, a year-long required course; creating an engaging and interactive classroom environment; providing academic and career advising and mentoring to students; and
participating in the governance and intellectual life of the law school.

A JD degree; an excellent academic record; some legal experience, such as judicial clerking or practice; demonstrated writing ability; and a commitment to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community are required. Several years' experience teaching legal writing is strongly preferred.
