University of South Carolina Legal Writing Instructor

University of South Carolina Joseph F. Rice School of Law

The University of South Carolina Joseph F. Rice School of Law is hiring a Legal Writing Instructor to join our faculty for the upcoming 2024-2025 academic year. Our Legal Writing Instructors teach 1L Legal Research, Analysis, and Writing I and II courses, which are offered for three credits each in the fall and spring semesters. We have recently expanded our department from our core team of six, which allows some of our team to periodically rotate out of teaching the 1L courses to teach upper-level writing courses, including our newly developed LRAW III course. Availability to teach upper-level writing courses remains subject to department and law school needs.

A Legal Writing Instructor will initially receive a one-year contract, followed by a two-year contract, followed by a three-year contract. Upon successful completion of these initial contracts, a Legal Writing Instructor may receive presumptively renewable five-year contracts, conditional upon funding and satisfactory performance. A Legal Writing Instructor also has the option to earn an additional summer stipend by teaching an elective course in Maymester or the Summer semester.
