Join legal writing faculty from across the region and beyond at the University of Baltimore on May 28–29, 2026, for two days of conversation, collaboration, and practical ideas for teaching in a changing profession.
Legal Writing in Transition: Teaching for a Changing Profession
The 2026 theme focuses on the evolving demands placed on legal writing and lawyering-skills instruction. As the profession changes through the NextGen Bar Exam, technological developments including generative AI, and shifting student expectations, legal writing faculty are rethinking how, what, and why we teach.
The Capital Area Legal Writing Conference returns in 2026 with a two-day gathering of legal writing faculty from across the region and beyond. The University of Baltimore School of Law is proud to host this event and invites faculty to connect with colleagues, share innovative teaching practices, and engage with emerging developments in legal education.
Located in the heart of Baltimore, the conference offers an ideal opportunity to make a long weekend of it while exploring both Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
The conference will begin early Thursday afternoon, May 28, 2026, and conclude late Friday afternoon, May 29, 2026. The draft conference schedule includes additional details.
There is no conference registration fee, and the University of Baltimore School of Law is located directly across from Baltimore’s Penn Station, making travel especially convenient.
Attendees can reach the conference easily by rail:
For parking at UBalt, we recommend the Fitzgerald Garage (80 West Oliver Street), which is adjacent to campus and offers a discounted rate. Visitors may enter the garage without any special credentials. Further information about receiving the discount will be available at the conference check-in.
Baltimore offers a wide range of accommodations. For convenience, we recommend the following three hotels, all in the Mount Vernon neighborhood and a short walk or drive from both UBalt and Penn Station. For hotel parking, reach out directly to the hotels for more information.
