Assistant/Associate/Full Professor
The University of New Mexico School of Law invites applications for faculty positions starting in fall 2027. The School of Law anticipates hiring a tenured or tenure-track faculty member to teach legal writing and other related courses. Both experienced and entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply.
Faculty in the Legal Analysis and Communication Program teach Elements of Legal Argumentation I and II, the School of Law’s required first-year writing sequence. They also teach upper-level writing courses, and the successful candidate will be expected to help implement the program’s upper-level writing curriculum. The faculty member may also contribute to the broader curriculum of the School of Law, depending on interest, expertise, and curricular need.
Minimum Qualification:
J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school or an equivalent foreign legal degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
Excellence or the promise of excellence teaching legal analysis and all forms of communication that relate to legal analysis.
Excellence or the promise of excellence in academic scholarship.
Commitment to teaching legal writing.
Practice experience of at least two years in legal work requiring significant written client-related legal analysis.
Ability to evaluate written and oral advocacy, including the ability to diagnose deficiencies in both.
Pre- or post-J.D. professional experience or training, which can include teaching, other graduate-level study, fellowships, or judicial clerkships.
Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with professional colleagues.
Commitment to cultivating an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the University’s mission to serve local and global communities.
