Professor of Legal Writing and Director of Legal Practice Skills
Suffolk University Law School is searching for a Professor of Legal Writing to join our faculty and serve as the Director of Legal Practice Skills (LPS), our top-five tenure-track legal writing program, starting in the 2027-2028 academic year. We welcome applications from individuals with substantial experience teaching in legal writing programs, a record of scholarship, significant service experience, and leadership experience or potential, including those with tenure, long-term contracts, or other similar record of accomplishments. We are looking for an innovative, collaborative leader who will maintain the program’s excellence and lead its continued evolution in a time of rapid change in legal practice and technology.
The Director of LPS will teach one section of the year-long first-year legal writing course and devote significant time to leading the program, including:
- overseeing legal writing adjuncts and visitors;
- liaising with the administration on matters related to LPS;
- mentoring new legal writing faculty;
- planning and overseeing curricular innovation;
- managing internal and external communications;
- participating and leading in the national legal writing community;
- conducting program review and strategic planning;
- maintaining involvement in regional and national legal writing organizations and initiatives;
- chairing the LPS faculty committee.
The anticipated salary range is $140,000 - $160,000 with the opportunity for additional compensation for administrative duties, as well as support for scholarship, research, and professional development. Tenure-track and tenured legal writing professors participate fully in faculty governance with the same voting rights as all tenure-track and tenured faculty.
