LWI supports a wide range of publications appealing to a variety of legal audiences, including teachers, scholars, and practitioners of legal writing:

Our scholarly journal, Legal Writing: The Journal of the Legal Writing Institute, was established first in 1988. For over 30 years, the Journal has encouraged and communicated scholarly research devoted to the theory, substance, and pedagogy of legal writing.

The LWI Monograph Series, the first volume of which was published in 2009, collects and reprints foundational articles on specific subjects, such as legal communication and technology, that are important to the teaching and study of professional legal writing.

The Second Draft is a twice-a-year publication that contains shorter, lightly footnoted articles and essays of interest to legal writing educators, sometimes addressing a central theme.

LWI Lives is a bi-monthly publication that captures the diversity of the legal writing community by profiling individual members of LWI.

LWI also publishes the Moot Court Advisor’s Handbook, a resource for anyone running moot court competitions.

To find additional scholarship related to legal writing, we encourage you to explore Legal Communication & Rhetoric: J.ALWD, a scholarly journal that serves as a resource and forum for conversation between legal practitioners and legal writing scholars, and The Scribes Journal of Legal Writing, a publication of the American Society of Legal Writers.
